My name is Yusra Hasan, and I am currently pursuing my M.A.Sc. in Environmental Engineering with my advisory committee that consists of, Dr. Bassim E. Abbassi, Dr. Manjusri Misra, and Dr. Amar K. Mohanty at the University of Guelph. 

My research focuses on performing a comprehensive life cycle assessment of recently developed compostable plastic products intended for use in high-efficiency greenhouse agriculture. More specifically, my study involves evaluating the environmental impact of biodegradable and compostable greenhouse films to reduce plastic waste in greenhouse operations and promote waste reduction initiatives within the agri-food sector. The adoption of such compostable materials not only addresses the issue of greenhouse plastic waste but also contributes to fostering sustainability within the Ontario greenhouse sector. This project will enable quantification and verification of the environmental sustainability of the new bioplastic blend. This approach ensures a thorough examination of the products, providing valuable insights into the overall environmental footprint of these products.
