Ontario Government Invests $6 Million in U of G Innovations

On May 4, 2018, Liz Sandals, MPP for Guelph, made an announcement that two University of Guelph research collaborations will receive more than $6 million from the Ontario government. A team led by Prof. Manjusri Misra of the BDDC will receive $3.8 million over five years to develop and commercialize sustainable plastic packaging from recycled and renewable plastics, as well as industrial and food waste.

Her co-principal investigator is Prof. Amar Mohanty of the Department of Plant Agriculture, and Director of the BDDC. He is the Premier’s Research Chair in Biomaterials and Transportation, and is cross-appointed to the School of Engineering.

The project will be based at the BDDC and will include collaborators from U of G Prof. Evan Fraser (Department of Geography), Prof. Stefano Gregori (School of Engineering), and Prof. Loong-Tak Lim (Department of Food Science), as well as Prof. Devashish Pujari from McMaster University and Prof. Jun Yang from Western University.
